Certificate IV in Security & Risk Management

About this Course

Over the past decade there has been a substantial change in the way that businesses manage their security operations and security risks. Business Managers have identified the benefits of risk management and now actively seek Security Providers with the ability to assess the risks associated with their business and implement risk reduction processes to prevent the potentially adverse effects on their business. The Certificate IV in Security & Risk Management qualification has been developed to provide Security Professionals with the skills and knowledge required to meet this development that affects the private security industry.

By combining professional services skills, resource management, risk management and advisory services in the context of the security industry this qualification is ideal for individuals who are employed (or intending to gain employment) as Security Supervisors, Security Area Managers, Security Operations Managers or Security Advisors.

 

Subjects Covered

The Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management covers 15 units of competency (11 core and 4 electives). Electives have been selected following consultation with the security industry however alternate units may be selected to meet individual requirements if requested.

Outcome

On successful completion of this program, participants will receive a CPP40707 Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management qualification.

While there is no industry licensing associated with this qualification, it is generally preferred as a minimum requirement to act as a Security Advisor.

After successfully achieving this qualification, candidates seeking further skills and knowledge in this field may undertake a Diploma of Security and Risk Management.

 

Entry Requirements

There are no prerequisite qualifications for this program however participants should have a good knowledge of Security Operations within Australia. This knowledge can be demonstrated by currently working in the security industry and/or completing a Certificate III in Security Operations qualification.

Participants should have language, literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to Grade 12 level. Reasonable computer skills and access to internet / email are strongly recommended.

 

Training and Assessment

This qualification is conducted by distance (self paced external study) with an option for face-to-face tuition available on request.

Participants will be provided with study resources and a detailed guide which identifies sources of information for participants to research. Participants may also access workplace documentation relevant to the course if authorised by their employer. Assessment is conducted through written questions, case studies and projects.

Participants will be provided with direct contact details for their nominated instructor. The instructor may be contacted by phone or email to provide support as required. Face-to-face tuition can be arranged with the nominated instructor if required.

 

Recognition of Prior Learning

Participants that can demonstrate relevant skills and experience may be able to receive credit for part or all of the Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management qualification. This is usually demonstrated through extensive experience in the role of a Security Operations Manager (or similar) or by having completed similar qualifications. Refer to the RPL Policy in the Student Handbook for more information.

 

Duration

As this program is self paced, the actual timeframe for completion will vary for each participant. An approximate duration is 3 months (full time) or 6 months (part time).

The program must be completed within 12 months.

 

Resources

Participants will be provided with all essential resources for the program including textbooks, study guides and assessments. Optional resources are identified in the study guide that may be acquired by participants if desired.

All resources are provided in hard copy and may be retained by the participant for future reference. An electronic copy of the study guide and assessments can be provided on request.

Participants must have access to a computer with internet for research. Assessments must be typed and may be submitted in hard copy or by email.

 

Cost

The cost of this qualification is $2500.
This should be paid in full when commencing the program unless a payment plan has been approved.
