Outdoor Recreation

The Outdoor Recreation industry consists of businesses mainly engaged in guiding clients through outdoor adventure or recreation activities in which the participant plays a significant physically active role. In addition to guiding services, the industry has a role in teaching or training clients in order that they may participate independently in an activity.  

Primary roles may include;

  • Provision of Outdoor Adventure Experiences or Outdoor Education in a range of adventure activities including Rock climbing, Abseiling, Canoeing, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Challenge Ropes Courses
  • Outdoor Recreation facility operation
  • School or youth camp operation providing outdoor adventure activities
  • Holiday camp/Resort operation involving outdoor adventure activities
  • Four wheel drive guiding operation where participants follow in their own vehicle behind a lead vehicle
  • Bushwalking with a guide 

Qualifications

Asset Training Australia has registered the following qualifications from the Outdoor Recreation Training Package (SRO03):

Activity Skills Training

Activity training is forms the basis of your Qualification.  Whether as an Assistant Leader, Activity Leader or Team Leader it is the activities that you study that define your career in Outdoor Recreation.

Activity skills sets can be studied independently from leadership training where students are interested only in gaining activity skills for safe independent participation.
