CPP30411 Certificate III in Security Operations

QLD – Security Officer (Unarmed) + Crowd Controller + Bodyguard

For those who have never worked in the security industry and are wanting a QLD Security Providers Licence with multiple functions.

Our Certificate III in Security Operations covers everything you will be required to know to apply for a Security Licence in QLD with multiple functions. This licence allows you to undertake work in:

  • Unarmed Security
  • Monitoring
  • Crowd Control
  • Bodyguard

You will be trained by a team of professionals with extensive experience in all areas of the security industry and a reputation for providing quality training and employment outcomes. Our instructors work in the industry to ensure that you learn the most up-to-date skills.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Certificate III in Security Operations (CPP30411).

Successful participants can then apply to the Office of Fair Trading for a Class 1 Security Providers Licence with the licence functions:

First Aid is also included in this course.

Entry Requirements

For entry to this course you must:

  1. Be eligible to apply for a QLD Security Providers Licence:
    1. Be 18 years or older
    2. Have not been convicted of a disqualifying offence in the past 10 years
    3. Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold an appropriate Visa to work in Australia
  2. Complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment
  3. If applying for an Accelerated Learning Program, complete a Prior Knowledge and Skills Assessment

Please be advised we are unable to train students on a student visa. You must find a CRICOS registered training provider.

Units of Competency

The Certificate III in Security Operations includes a total of 15 units.

In order to meet the licensing requirements for a QLD Security Providers Licence, students will need to complete the following units:

Core Units

  • BSBFLM303C Contribute to effective workplace relationships
  • BSBWOR301A Organise personal work priorities and development
  • CPPSEC3001A Maintain workplace safety in the security industry
  • CPPSEC3002A Manage conflict through negotiation
  • CPPSEC3003A Determine response to security risk situation
  • CPPSEC3005A Prepare and present security documentation and reports
  • CPPSEC3006A Coordinate a quality security service to customers
  • CPPSEC3007A Maintain security of environment

Elective Units

  • CPPSEC2011B Control access to and exit from premises
  • CPPSEC2012A Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour
  • CPPSEC2015A Patrol premises
  • CPPSEC3013A Control persons using empty hand techniques
  • CPPSEC3018A Provide for the safety of persons at risk
  • HLTAID003 Provide first aid

Additional Elective Unit (Required for Licensing, issued on separate SOA)

  • CPPSEC2014A Operate basic security equipment

Delivery Options

Option 1 – Standard Delivery Program

Complete the course over 12 months including:

  • 30x face-to-face workshops scheduled over 12 months
  • Self-paced online study over 12 months in addition to workshops
  • Progressive training schedule allowing you to work through one unit at a time
  • Additional trainer support and/or attend workshops multiple times until you are ready for your assessments
  • Average 25 hours per week

Option 2 – Accelerated Learning Program

For those with related prior knowledge and skills, complete the course at a faster pace. Includes:

  • Individual Training Needs Analysis – required to confirm this pathway is right for you
  • Pre-workshop reading (approx. 40 hours)
  • Intensive 10 day face-to-face workshop (See scheduled dates by clicking on the right side bar location link)
  • Self-paced online study
  • Holistic training approach using prior knowledge and skills to accelerate learning
  • Additional trainer support and/or attend workshops multiple times until you are ready for your assessments
  • Average 40 – 50 hours per week
  • Complete at your own pace with up to 12 months to complete all assessment tasks

Option 3 – Assessment Only Program

For those with extensive prior knowledge, skills and experience. Includes:

  • Recognition of Prior Learning Interview – required to confirm this pathway is right for you
  • Pre-workshop reading (approx. 40 hours)
  • Intensive 5 day face-to-face practical assessment workshop (See scheduled dates below)
  • Self-paced online knowledge assessment
  • Option to complete additional gap training workshops

Note: the Assessment Only Program requires significant prior knowledge and skills which relate directly to security officer and Crowd Controller job roles. It is ideal for people who have worked in security roles in the last 5 years but have let their licence lapse. The assessment only program is not available under the Certificate 3 Guarantee funding.

Option 4 – Custom Program

  • Selecting different elective units to achieve a different outcome
  • Changes to the amount of training required based on your prior knowledge and skills
  • Different methods of training and assessment

Course fees may vary depending on the location and delivery mode of the course. These fees are based on courses conducted by our Brisbane office:

Standard Program:                         $1500

Accelerated Learning Program:  $1500

Government Funded

Students who are eligible for the QLD Government Certificate 3 Guarantee funding may only have to pay the following co-contribution fees:

Concession:                                   $14 ($1 per unit)

Non-Concession:                           $42 ($3 per unit)

Please note the co-contribution fee may change after a review of your circumstances prior to enrolment in the qualification but will not exceed the above stated fees.

Please be advised that you will no longer be eligible for a government subsidised training place under the Certificate 3 Guarantee program once you complete the Certificate III in Security Operations.

Licensing Requirements

QLD Security Providers Licence Applications are processed by the Office of Fair Trading after completing your course.

Fees are payable for the licence application, criminal history check and fingerprinting. These fees are not included in the course fee and should be paid separately to the Office of Fair Trading with your licence application.

Licensed Crowd Controllers and Bodyguards in QLD are required to complete refresher training every 3 years.
