There is nothing quite like the holidays. Dressing the Christmas tree, getting the family all together and sharing cringy jokes from the Christmas crackers. It really is the most wonderful time of the year.

But we could do without the clean-up, bags worth of wrapping paper, leftovers and, if we’re honest, a bunch of poorly thought-out presents that will end up in the bin in our new year’s spring clean.

Did you know that Aussies produce 30% more waste at Christmas?  Nearly 5 million tons of food goes straight into landfill, and we go through about 150,000 kilometers of wrapping paper. But the real shock is that about 20 million of the gifts we exchange each year; we don’t even want.

With those sobering statistics it’s no surprise more Australians are trying to buck the trend towards over-consumption and waste by giving Christmas experience gifts.

What is a Christmas experience gift?

An experience gift is giving someone an experience instead of a physical gift. this could be tickets to see a musical or concert, or a hot air balloon ride or an interesting workshop they’ve always wanted to take.

At Asset, we offer a range of courses and workshops that would be great experience gifts for those you love! So, we’ve put together some of our most popular courses to help you give someone a different kind of experience gift this Christmas.

Firearms Course

Our Firearms Safety A, B & H workshop is consistently one of our most booked out courses.

This qualification is the most commonly required course for those looking to get a firearms license for sports and target shooting.  It gives you a fantastic overview and introduction to firearms legislation, the skills needed to shoot safely, safe handling, storage and transportation and a whole lot more.

Even if you aren’t interested in gaining a licence, attending a firearms safety course is an experience in itself!

This course covers the most common firearms used in sports and target shooting including:

  • Air rifles
  • Single and double barrel shotguns
  • Bolt action rifles
  • Lever action rifles
  • Pump action rifles
  • Muzzle loading firearms
  • Revolvers and more

The course is delivered in a one-day, face-to-face workshop at our North Lakes office / Rothwell range location as well as with our training partners Ipswich Sporting Firearms, SEQ Firearms and Foresight Tactical.

The cost of the course is dependent on the location but the cost at our North Lakes location is $175. You can learn more about the course here.

If you know someone who has always wanted to learn to shoot, this could be the perfect present for them this holiday season!

Crossbow Course

Do you know someone who has always wanted to learn how to shoot with a  crossbow? This is the type of experience gift for them.

Our Crossbow Safety Course covers everything you need know about safely handling, storing, transporting and shooting a crossbow.

Crossbows are a popular choice for those with smaller properties, bow hunters and target shooters.

The course is delivered over a four-hour, face-to-face workshop at our North Lakes office/Rothwell range location but you can also complete with one of our training partners at Ipswich Sporting Firearms, SEQ Firearms or Foresight Tactical.

The course costs depends on the location you pick but at our North Lakes/Rothwell Range location, it is $125.

If you know someone who has always been interested in bow and arrow shooting, the crossbow course could be the perfect gift for them! Gift vouchers are available.

First Aid

First Aid is one of the most important courses you can do. Knowing what to do in an emergency is a real confidence boost and having a valid first aid certificate can come in handy in the workplace and with volunteering positions. Not to mention, it’s a fun day out and a great Christmas experience gift.

The Provide First Aid course covers basic first aid, basic emergency life support and how to correctly give CPR.

The course is delivered in a one day face-to-face practical workshop and you will need to complete some online work before the day of the workshop. We offer the course at our North Lakes, Logan and Gold Coast locations and it costs $150.

You can read more about this course here.

If you know someone who is interested in gaining some life-saving skills, this could be the perfect Christmas experience gift.

Remote First Aid for Campers

Do you know someone who is an avid camper? Or maybe a bit of a hiking enthusiast? A gift voucher to complete a remote first aid course would be something different for Christmas this year!

Provide First Aid in a Remote or Isolated Area is the perfect course for someone who spends a lot of time out in the bush.

The course covers everything you’ll need to know to be able to effectively care for someone and provide prolonged first aid in a remote or isolated area while awaiting medical aid.

The course is delivered over one and half days and it costs $195. You can read more about the course here.

BOSAR – Behavioural Observation and Suspicious Activity Recognition

Do you know someone who is interested in security and law enforcement? Then the BOSAR course might be a great gift for them! BOSAR stands for behavioural observation and suspicious activity recognition.

The BOSAR course gives you a fantastic overview of the key skills and knowledge of suspicious object identification and suspicious activity and behaviour recognition.

The course is delivered through a 2.5 hour online conference. Purchase a gift voucher for a friend who is obsessed with security!

Justice of the Peace

Becoming a Justice of the Peace is a very common aspiration. It’s a coveted position to hold and an important one. A JP provides support to the community by witnessing documents and signing affidavits, taking statutory declarations and affirmations, certifying true copies documents and more.

If you know someone who has always wanted to become a JP, giving them the gift of training would be a real surprise.

The Justice of the Peace course is the required qualification to be able to apply to become a JP.

It is available through online study or a face to face workshop at our North Lakes or Gold Coast locations.

It costs $375 and it’s a perfect gift for anyone who loves to serve their community and is interested in law and the justice system. You can learn more about the course here.

If you’re thinking of giving someone an experience gift this Christmas but you’re not sure which course would suit them, organise to have a chat with one of our friendly course advisors. They’ll be able to point you in the direction.

Be a little different this Christmas and give the gift of learning!
