A Full Time Security Career in Venues and Events

Wayne lived in North Queensland for most of his life prior to moving to South East Queensland.

For most of his working career Wayne was involved in a variety of jobs including sugar cane planting process work.

In 2013 he moved to Caboolture and put his life on hold for a few years until his kids got older.

In 2017, his Job Active Provider, Sarina Russo, suggested he possibly consider Security as a route to employment.

“Sarina Russo referred me to Asset College and after a few false starts, I was underway”.

Wayne attended the Security Career Information Session at North Lakes and decided to give it a go.

“During the info session, ASSET explained that there were multiple roles within the industry via National Employers, Regional Employers and Venue/Event employers”

“ASSET helped me get ready via their employment services. I went for a few job interviews, then got a job with CAP Security”

CAP Security are one of Queensland’s leading event and venue security providers delivering regular security at events held at Suncorp Stadium and the Gabba Stadium.

Asset College always recommends that every graduate sign up for employment with CAP Security after becoming licensed to get initial employment and experience.

However, employment is generally casual and can be inconsistent based upon their event and venue security rostering requirements.

Wayne, via his ‘go get it’ attitude and reliability has become one of their key security guards.

“I’ve now been working with them for over 12 months, generally 5-6 days per week”

“My main role is Venue Security working at venues across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.”

Wayne also worked at the Commonwealth Games both before and during the actual Games.

“I’m loving the consistent work and variety”

He also gets plenty of variety including security at some of Brisbane’s largest concerts including Ed Sheeran at Suncorp Stadium, the Foo Fighters at Sirromet Wines, Stevie Nicks, the Pretenders, the Angels and quite a few other bands at a variety of venues.

Plus major sporting events including the Big Bash Cricket, multiple Broncos games as well as Brisbane Lions.

“I often get great feedback on being a cool guard which I love and the ALH Area Manager recently praised me on how well I treated him.”

I am loving what I am doing and would probably still be unemployed had it not been for Sarina Russo, Asset College and my career in Security”
