Certificate II in Aviation Transport Protection (AVI20416 Checked Baggage Screener/
AVI20316 Passenger and Non-Passenger Screener)

Aviation Transport is a nationally significant critical infrastructure sector to ensure the continuity of essential services in the face of all hazardous events including pandemic, terrorist attacks, cyber crime and natural disasters.

The Australian Government Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Office of Transport Security (OTS) recognises the Certificate II in Aviation Transport Protection as a benchmark standard for security personnel employed in the sector.

Participants on this course will undertake screening operations at a live screening facility at a major regional airport.

Participants can also begin with the Aviation, Maritime & Security Screening course which is the minimum qualification required to apply for an Aviation Protection Officer position. Once employed, participants can request copies of the assessment workbooks to be completed on the job by their supervisor for a free upgrade to the Certificate II in Aviation Transport Protection.

 

Course Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, participants will receive two qualifications:

  • AVI20416 Certificate II in Aviation Transport Protection (Checked Baggage Screener)
  • AVI20316 Certificate II in Aviation Transport Protection (Passenger and Non-Passenger Screener)

  • Aviation Transport Protection Officer – Passenger/Non-Passenger Screener
  • Aviation Transport Protection Officer – Checked Baggage Screener

Entry Requirements

Participants for this course must have completed a Certificate II or Certificate III in Security Operations prior to commencing this course.

Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to be able to read, comprehend and comply with legislation, organisational policies and procedures, record observations, draft reports, and communicate in clear English is essential.

Basic to intermediate computer skills are also required.

Participants should not have an injury of physical disability that prevents them from standing for long periods, lifting luggage or visual impairments that prevent them from accurately and consistently monitoring images on a computer screen for continuous periods of up to 20 minutes.

Prior to enrolment participants may choose to undertake an LLN assessment.

Delivery Options

This course is delivered face-to-face over 5 days supported by self-paced assessment workbooks. Depending on the location of the course, participants studying the full Certificate II will undertake one day of training and assessment in a live screening facility during this course.

If participants have entered this qualification the through Aviation, Maritime and Security Screening course, they will be required to complete 40 hours on the job training, signed off by their Supervisor to obtain this qualification as an upgrade.

Recognition of Prior Learning is available for this qualification.
