Description of Role

Retail Assistants work with customers on the shop floor of a business, providing advice, recommending products, answering questions and making sales. They are typically the first people to greet customers and assist buyers throughout the entire purchasing process – from locating a product to processing payments.

Further to their primary role, Retail Assistants are tasked to monitor the inventory in their store and be highly familiar with the items available for purchase. They are also expected to keep the store presentable and keep things in the window display attractive to customers. They should also be able to showcase their store’s products and offer demonstrations to buyers. Retail assistants must likewise be prepared to deal with and help solve customer complaints.

Regardless of the store they work in, Retail Assistants must possess good customer service skills, patience, pleasing personality and ability to balance multiple tasks.
