Overview
This course is for new entrants to the security industry looking to obtain a Security Licence. It is the first course you must complete. Asset College’s security guard course was developed with industry, for industry and delivered by trainers with decades of experience in the industry!

Upon successful competition of this course, you will be awarded a Certificate II in Security Operations (CPP20218) qualification.

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) requirements for Security Training
IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ
Working in the Security Industry requires a high level of English Language and Literacy skills. The course requires all students to be able to read, write and speak clearly in English.
During the course, students will be required to complete closed-book exams and other assessments where the trainer cannot help. If you cannot read, write, and speak English well then you will NOT pass the course.
If you are not confident with reading, writing, and speaking English then you should not enrol into this course. Asset College will conduct LLN testing at the start of the course and will not allow students to continue if they do not meet the minimum requirements.
Security Officers also require basic digital literacy (computer skills) to perform their role. This could include writing incident reports, responding to emails, using online rostering apps or other online tasks.
During the course, students will be required to complete some activities using computers, laptops, or other devices. While the trainer can provide some assistance, it is expected that students have some basic computer skills before commencing the course.
You must be physically capable of responding to first aid emergency scenarios, including providing CPR to a manikin on the floor. Anyone in a wheelchair or with other disabilities that may impact their participation in these activities should contact us to discuss their individual circumstances before enrolling.
Units of Competency
The Certificate II in Security Operations course includes a total of 14 core units.
This qualification is based on the licensing requirements to obtain a Security Providers Licence in all states and territories and therefore units within this course cannot be changed.
Delivery Options
QLD, NT, TAS, ACT, SA Delivery
You will attend 8 full days of face to face training 8.30am – 5.00pm.
The course schedule differs depending on the location. Some course schedules will include a requirement to attend on a Saturday. Please make sure that you check the dates of your course provided to you in your enrolment emails. You must attend all days.
You will need to complete online learning modules before the start of your course.
First aid training is delivered on day 6 of this course. Before attending your practical workshop for first aid, you will be required to complete an online assessment which will be sent to you on enrolment.
Completion of the online assessment prior to attending your face to face workshop for first aid is mandatory. Should you not complete your online assessment, you will not be permitted entry to the face to face course. You will need to rebook for this day and this will incur a rebooking fee of $50.
You have 3 months to complete this course.
NSW Delivery
This course is delivered online followed by a 10 day workshop. Students should allow a minimum of 5 days to complete the online training prior to attending your scheduled face to face workshop. It is mandatory to complete the online training prior to your workshop date. If you do not complete your online training prior to attending, you will not be able to start your face to face workshop and will be required to rebook.
Face to face workshop will run from 8.00am – 5.00pm daily.
Students will need to attend a face to face SLED LLN assessment prior to enrolling in this course.
WA Delivery
We are not currently delivering courses in WA.

This course is delivered through a 17 day face to face workshop. Face to face workshop will run from 8.30am – 5.00pm daily.

Certificate 3 Guarantee Funded Co-Contribution Fees – Queensland Only
Eligible students in Queensland may receive government subsidised training under the Certificate 3 Guarantee program.

Assessment Re-Submission Fees
Should you be deemed not competent after 2 attempts at a unit of competency, an assessment re-submission fee of $50 will apply per assessment.
Re-Enrolment
Should you wish to cancel your course or your enrolment is cancelled by us due to no progress and you then wish to re-enrol, a re-enrolment fee of 25% of the standard course fee will apply if requested within 3 months of initial cancellation. If re-enrolment is requested within 4 – 12 months of initial cancellation, 50% of the standard course fee will apply.
Licensing Requirements
While this course is nationally recognised, each state or territory has it’s own licensing requirements. Therefore, you should complete training in the state you wish to be licensed. If you wish to be licensed in multiple states, please contact us to discuss your individual circumstances.
Queensland
Successful participants will be eligible to apply to the Office of Fair Trading for a Class 1 Security Providers Licence with the licence functions:
QLD Security Providers Licence Applications are processed by the Office of Fair Trading after completing your course.
Fees are payable for the licence application, criminal history check and fingerprinting. These fees are not included in the course fee and should be paid separately to the Office of Fair Trading with your licence application.
Licensed Crowd Controllers and Bodyguards in QLD are required to complete refresher training every 3 years.

From 21 January 2020, for unarmed security officers & crowd controllers licences your training must include all 14 core modules from CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations for new licences.
Northern Territory

You must complete a NT Police fingerprint check including spent convictions for the purpose of security through SAFE NT.
South Australia
Information about licensing requirements for South Australia can be found here.
Once you have obtained your security licence, you are required to complete an additional unit in order to gain employment at a licensed premises.
When competent you can apply to the Commissioner of Liquor and Gambling for additional licensing.
Old CPP20212 Certificate II in Security Operations qualifications will not be accepted for new licences after 1 August 2020.
Western Australia
We ensure our students have the knowledge and skills to not only be confident in their chosen job but also to pass the WA Police examination to get licensed in WA.
This course meets the requirements for a Security Officer’s Licence and a Crowd Controller’s Licence.

Licensing in this state continue to accept units from the old CPP20212 packages until 30 September 2020. After this date only units from the new Cert II CPP20218 will be accepted.
New South Wales
This training is only for new licences, however if an existing licence is not renewed on time you will have to contact SLED to find out if you have to do the new training.
Training must be completed in NSW in order to obtain a NSW licence as there is special SLED licensing assessments that must be completed.

Australian Capital Territory
To work in the security industry in the ACT you need a licence. Access Canberra issues licences under the Security Industry Act 2003.

Victoria
As of 1 July 2020 all RTOs will be delivering the new CPP20218 unarmed guard and crowd control.
Evidence of training that has not previously been provided is valid for 12 months from the date of completion.
You do not need to do new training if renewing unless your licence expires or is cancelled for 12 months or more, you will have to reapply and you will have to provide new training certificates.
If you have been out of the industry (have not held a security licence) for more than 12 months, training qualifications or statements will not be accepted.
