The mines provide the fastest way to earn, even if you’re just starting out. Queensland has a strict Workplace Health & Safety policy in the mines when it comes to personal safety.
As a result of this, all mine workers in Queensland must complete a safety qualification called the Standard 11, which is made up of 6 competencies as set down by the Queensland Mines Inspectorate.
Standard 11 Mining Induction is the approved course that covers both coal and metalliferous mines.

On successful completion of this course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for Standard 11 Mining Induction.
The Standard 11 is needed for any person who has a requirement to be on a mine site for the purpose of work. This includes, but is not limited to, process workers, electricians, plumbers, fitters, engineers, architects, cleaning staff, kitchen hands, chefs, office and admin staff, drivers, labourers and managers etc.
This induction is valid for 5 years from the time of completion after which it is recommended that you complete a 1 day refresher course.
There are no prerequisite units required for this qualification.
Participants will require basic English language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills. Participants who have not previously completed any vocational education and training may be required to undertake an Online LLN ASSESSMENT prior to commencing enrolment in this qualification.
You should have sufficient literacy and numeracy to read and comprehend instructions for safety at the workplace. Participants will need sufficient physical ability to attend a classroom based course, perform CPR floor demonstration exercises and lift and carry approximately 10kg fire extinguisher to extinguish a fire.
