Terry’s Wilson Security Job Has Allowed Him To Purchase His Own Home
Terry ran his own catering company for 15 years. During the Campbell Newman phase, local Government was reduced and this seriously impacted on business.
Terry needed to find a new career, something that would empower him towards reaching his goals of home ownership.
Terry was referred to Asset College through his job services provider, Sarina Russo in Fortitude Valley. He was originally looking for a human resources study pathway but saw a poster advertising security careers and decided to come along for a career information session.
He undertook his training with Asset College in August 2017 and received his Security Providers licence by October of 2017 which allowed him to be referred to Wilson Security via ASSET’s employer connection events.
Terry secured a 32 hour a week, permanent part-time role working at the Brisbane Library. He also joined CAP Security, working a variety of events across the city.
He never imagined just how diverse his career was about to become, receiving shifts across Brisbane in concierge, escort guarding, screening for protective services, dock master (control of loading bays) and managing security alerts for lock downs.
“The diversity of work has been astonishing”, Terry says of his new career.
Now, a year later he is working up to 70 hours a week including 4 days a week at Wesley Hospital for Wilson Security.
“This has been a life changer for me”.
“At 50 I was unsure of what my future would be. Having worked in my own business for over 15 years, it was difficult to work out what was to be next”.
“Training with ASSET has been changed my life. From day dot, ASSET cared and worked hard to help me get ahead” .
“Their connections with employers is great with opportunities for instant connections in the industry”.
“The training was a great grounding. The after-course employment support was outstanding with real connections”.
“In one month, after completing the course, my new career had started, and I have now almost saved my deposit for a new home and have had a $400,000 home loan approved”.
“My goal is to secure my new home and to keep working with Wilson’s for years to come”.
“I’ve already enrolled into a Diploma of Security and Risk Management with Asset College to keep ahead of the game”.
Thank you to Terry for allowing us to share his story.
