This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

This unit applies to a range of workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies. This includes early childhood workers and educators who work with school age children in outside school hours care and vacation programs.

This unit of competency may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).

Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

On successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with a Provide First Aid in an education and care setting (HLTAID012) (Statement of Attainment).

There are no prerequisite units required for this qualification. It is however expected that participants have English language, literacy, and numeracy skills equivalent to at least Year 10 level.

Students must be physically capable of responding to first aid emergency scenarios, including providing CPR to a manikin on the floor. Anyone in a wheelchair or with other disabilities that may impact their participation in these activities should contact us to discuss their individual circumstances before enrolling.

International students are accepted into this course.

Minimum age to attend ASSET’s first aid courses is 13.

I finished my training with you last Friday and just wanted to thank you all for the professionalism and friendly nature of all your team. I was a bit concerned and nervous at first ,having to do the training, but all your staff were very helpful and it turned out to be quite good fun. Thank you all for all your help.
