What is Jobseeker Support?
Jobseeker Support is part of the Queensland Government’s Back to Work program, designed to help disadvantaged jobseekers gain and retain employment. It provides financial assistance to remove barriers to work by covering specific costs that support individuals in securing long-term jobs.
This initiative is administered by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET).
Who Can Apply?
- Young people aged 15–24 years who have been unemployed for at least 8 weeks.
- First Nations people who have been unemployed for at least 8 weeks.
- People with disability who have been unemployed for at least 8 weeks.
- Culturally and linguistically diverse people who have been unemployed for at least 8 weeks.
- Long-term unemployed people who have been unemployed for 52 weeks or more.
You must also be:
What Support Can Be Funded?
- Driving lessons (up to 10 lessons).
- Mandatory industry checks such as White Card, Blue Card, or Yellow Card fees.
- Licence fees and machinery tickets.
- Purchase of identification documents (e.g. birth certificate, driver licence, 18+ card).
- Uniforms, protective clothing and tools relevant to your career path.
Examples for Asset College students:
- Security licence application fees.
- ASIC or MSIC JobReady Checks required for aviation or maritime security roles.
- Safety equipment such as work boots, protective gloves, and high-visibility clothing.
- Basic tools of trade such as notebooks for investigations or torches for night patrols.
What’s Not Covered?
- Costs for goods or services purchased before your application is approved.
- Vocational qualifications within the Australian Qualifications Framework (e.g. Certificate III or higher courses).
- Assets or capital equipment such as laptops, tablets, or mobile phones.
- Contributions to wages for any future employment.
- Services already funded under other initiatives such as Skilling Queenslanders for Work or Australian Government programs.
How Much Funding is Available?
How to Apply
- A copy of your identification.
- Details of your employment status.
- At least one invoice or quote from an ABN-registered supplier showing the item(s) you are applying for.
Important Notes
- Applications can only be made once, but you may request multiple items up to the $3,000 limit.
- Funding is paid directly to the supplier or service provider — not to the applicant.
- Applications are usually assessed within 10 business days.
- If declined, you may request a review within 21 business days.
