Security Operations Certificate II in Townsville

This course is designed for new entrants to the Queensland security industry who want to obtain their Class 1 Security Provider Licence. It’s the first step toward working as a licensed Unarmed Security Officer in Queensland. Upon successful competition of this course, you will be awarded a Certificate II in Security Operations (CPP20218) qualification.

First Aid is also included in this course.

This course provides a pathway to further learning and work in various security roles and settings including, but not limited to:

  • armed guarding
  • cash-in-transit
  • close protection operations
  • control room operations
  • guard dog handling.

The Certificate II in Security Operations course includes a total of 14 core units.

This qualification is based on the licensing requirements to obtain a Security Providers Licence in QLD and therefore units within this course cannot be changed.

You will need access to a computer with an internet connection to complete the online component of this course.
Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) requirements for Security Training.

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ

Working in the Security Industry requires strong English language and literacy skills. All students must be able to read, write, and speak clearly in English, as the course includes closed-book exams and assessments where trainers cannot assist. If you cannot confidently understand or communicate in English, you will not be able to pass the course.

If you are unsure about your English ability, we recommend not enrolling at this time. Asset College conducts LLN testing at the beginning of the course, and students who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be able to continue.

Security Officers must also have basic digital literacy. In the workplace, you may need to write incident reports, respond to emails, use online rostering systems, or complete other digital tasks. During the course, you will complete some activities on computers or digital devices. While trainers can provide limited support, students are expected to have foundational computer skills before starting.

You must also be physically capable of participating in first aid scenarios, including performing CPR on a manikin positioned on the floor. Students with mobility limitations or disabilities that may affect participation should contact us to discuss individual circumstances prior to enrolling.

SecurityLicensing Requirements

While this course is nationally recognised, each state or territory has it’s own licensing requirements. Therefore, you should complete training in the state you wish to be licensed. If you wish to be licensed in multiple states, please contact us to discuss your individual circumstances.

Successful participants will be eligible to apply to the Office of Fair Trading for a Class 1 Security Providers Licence with the licence functions:
  • Security Officer (Unarmed)
  • Monitoring (Monitoring no longer requires additional training in order to be added as a function to your security licence).
  • Crowd Controller
QLD Security Providers Licence Applications are processed by the Office of Fair Trading after completing your course. Fees are payable for the licence application, criminal history check and fingerprinting. These fees are not included in the course fee and should be paid separately to the Office of Fair Trading with your licence application. Licensed Crowd Controllers and Bodyguards in QLD are required to complete refresher training every 3 years

From 21 January 2020, for unarmed security officers & crowd controllers licences your training must include all 14 core modules from CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations for new licences.

International Students Entry Requirements

To enrol in our CRICOS registered security course, international students must hold either a Student Visa Subclass 500 or any other temporary visa with study rights.

You will need to:

  • Undertake an online language, literacy and numeracy assessment
  • Be 18 years of age
  • Be eligible for a Security Providers licence in QLD
  • Provide us with your IELTS level

  2. Complete an Enrolment Form. 
  3. Provide us with your Unique Student Identifier (USI).
  4. Provide us with a copy of your passport and student visa.
  5. Complete a language, literacy and numerarcy assessment.
  6. Review your letter of offer and sign your agreement.
  7. Pay your course fee.
  8. You will be issued with an official Confirmation of Enrolment.
  9. Participate in orientation.
  10. Start your course!

Please note, should you wish to cancel your course after completed enrolment, you will be required to pay a $500 fee.

If you already have relevant security experience or previous training, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for the Certificate II in Security Operations.

RPL allows your existing skills and experience to be assessed towards a nationally recognised qualification. For many people, this means completing a qualification faster and at a lower cost than traditional study.

RPL is not the right pathway for everyone. Outcomes depend on the evidence you can provide and assessment by a qualified assessor.

How do I apply for a security licence?
