Introduction
At Asset College, every prospective student completes a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) review before enrolling in a course. This is a requirement under the 2025 Standards for Registered Training Organisations, but more importantly, it helps ensure every learner has the best possible chance of completing their training successfully and feeling confident throughout the learning journey.
People come to us with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and strengths. An LLND review simply helps us understand your starting point so we can match you with the right course, recommend supports if needed and avoid placing you in training that may not yet be suitable. It is not a test, and it is not something to be worried about — its purpose is to support your success in both study and future employment.
What Is an LLND Review?
- Language - understanding and using spoken communication
- Literacy - reading, writing and understanding information
- Numeracy - working with numbers in everyday and workplace contexts
- Digital skills - using technology confidently and safely for learning and communication
How LLND Reviews Support Student Success
Completing a course successfully relies on having the core skills needed to understand learning materials, complete assessments and participate in workplace-related activities. The LLND review helps us identify any supports that may help you succeed, such as additional guidance from your trainer or strategies for approaching certain tasks.
This process also helps us make responsible enrolment decisions. If the review indicates that a learner is not yet ready for the demands of a particular course, we will discuss this openly and recommend next steps. This prevents unnecessary stress and protects your time, investment and wellbeing.
Employers value strong communication, problem-solving and digital skills. Completing a course with confidence in these areas helps you enter the workforce prepared for real job tasks.
Understanding ACSF Levels in Simple Terms
The Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) is a national system used to describe the core skills people need for study, work and daily life. It focuses on five skill areas:
- Learning - taking in new information and applying it
- Reading - understanding written information
- Writing - communicating clearly in writing
- Oral communication - speaking and listening effectively
- Numeracy - using numbers, measurements and basic calculations
- Levels 1–2 - beginning skills and simple tasks
- Level 3 - the level needed for many vocational courses and workplaces
- Levels 4–5 - advanced reading, writing and problem-solving for more complex or specialised tasks
These levels help us understand the skills required for different courses and identify any areas where support may assist you. Each course has a recommended ACSF range to guide enrolment decisions. Being slightly above or below this range does not automatically make you ineligible — many learners sit close to the recommended level and succeed with the right support in place.
The ACSF simply gives us a clear picture of your starting point so we can help you begin your training with confidence.
When Additional Support May Be Needed
Sometimes the LLND review shows that a learner may benefit from support either before or during their course. This is very common, and many students successfully strengthen their skills with the right guidance.
If your results sit close to the recommended ACSF range for a course, we may suggest additional support. This could include extra trainer guidance, study strategies or targeted resources. Being “close” is usually workable and does not prevent enrolment.
If there is a significant gap between your current skills and the requirements of the course, we may recommend developing foundation skills before enrolling. This ensures you begin training prepared and avoids placing you in a situation where success would be unlikely.
Foundation skills training options may include:
Digital Skills Requirements
We describe digital skills in three simple categories:
| Basic digital skills Most Asset College courses require only this level. | It includes the ability to:
|
|---|---|
| Intermediate digital skills | A higher level of independence and confidence, which may include:
|
| Advanced digital skills | These apply to specialised or technical areas and are not required for most courses. They may involve using industry-specific systems or more complex digital processes. |

What Happens After the Review
| Ready to enrol | Your skills align with the recommended range for the course. |
|---|---|
| Ready to enrol with support | Ready to enrol with support You may sit slightly outside the recommended range, but with reasonable support you are likely to succeed. You remain in control of your enrolment decision, and we will help you understand what support may assist you. |
| Foundation skills development needed first | If there is a significant gap between your current skills and the demands of the course, we may suggest building those skills before enrolment. This ensures a fair and realistic pathway to success and avoids enrolling you into a course where you would face unnecessary difficulty. |
