BSB41415 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

Previously referred to as Certificate IV OHS, the new Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is now considered the minimum qualification for those seeking work as a WHS Manager, Advisor or Safety Officer.

This qualification is suitable for people already working in a work health and safety (WHS) role and who may or may not work under supervision. You may provide leadership and guidance to others and have some limited responsibility for the output of others.

In this qualification you will learn:

  • Australian Standards and relevant regulations and legislation
  • Risk assessment and hazard control
  • WHS management systems
  • WHS consultation and participation processes (identifying participants, reviewing  procedures, ascertaining training needs, communicating data, developing improvement initiatives)
  • WHS leadership skills
  • Incident response procedures
  • Assisting in incident investigations
  • Managing claims and implementing rehabilitation / return-to-work programs
  • Establishing, reviewing and evaluating WHS measures and initiatives

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41415).

Entry Requirements

There are no prerequisite units required for entry into this course.

You will require basic English language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills. If you have not previously completed a Certificate III qualification you may be required to undertake an Online LLN ASSESSMENT prior to commencing enrolment in this course.

Students applying for the CSQ Funding will be required to complete the Online LLN ASSESSMENT. An invitation will be sent to complete the assessment upon enquiry.

Underpinning knowledge in work health and safety procedures is preferred, but not essential.

If completing the online course, you will also need:

  • Access to a computer with word processing, PDF reader capabilities and an internet connection

Units of Competency

To be awarded this qualification, you will be required to show competency in a total of 10 units.
5 Core and 5 Electives.

Core units

  • BSBWHS402 Assist with compliance with WHS laws
  • BSBWHS403 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS consultation and participation processes
  • BSBWHS404 Contribute to WHS hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • BSBWHS405 Contribute to implementing and maintaining WHS management systems
  • BSBWHS406 Assist with responding to incidents

Elective Units*

  • BSBWHS408 Assist with effective WHS management of contractors
  • BSBWHS410 Contribute to work-related health and safety measures and initiatives
  • BSBPMG522 Undertake project work
  • BSBMGT401 Show leadership in the workplace

  • BSBMGT403 Implement continuous improvement

Delivery Options

OPTION 1 – Study Online
Study where and when it suits you by using our interactive elearning platform. You will have 12 months to complete this course at your own pace. You will be able to contact your trainer by email and phone for assistance.

OPTION 2 – Study Online at our Facilities
You can complete the same online course at our facilities using our resources and equipment at no extra cost. If you need some direction, we will have staff available to provide additional support if required. This option is not available at all locations, bookings are essential.

OPTION 3 – Study in Class
By request only. We can schedule a 5 or 10 day face-to-face workshop for groups of 5 or more students. Note that there may be additional work required following the workshop to complete the course in full.

OPTION 4 – Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Construction Skills QLD (CSQ) Funding
Asset College is approved to deliver the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety under the Queensland Government’s CSQ Funding for eligible participants. To be eligible for this funding you must work in Building and Construction Industry in the last 6 months.
