This White Card course (CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) is mandatory for anyone who wants to work on a construction site in NSW. The course provides essential training in work health and safety (WHS) practices, helping workers identify hazards, follow safety procedures, and understand their legal obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW).
Course Overview
Looking to work in the construction industry in New South Wales? You’ll need a White Card first!
This White Card course (CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) is mandatory for anyone who wants to work on a construction site in NSW. The course provides essential training in work health and safety (WHS) practices, helping workers identify hazards, follow safety procedures, and understand their legal obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW).
Asset College is approved by SafeWork NSW to deliver General Construction Induction Training (White Card training) across New South Wales. All courses are delivered face-to-face by our nominated and authorised trainers. Upon successful completion of training and assessment, students receive a Statement of Training (SOT) on the same day, allowing them to start work immediately while they await their official White Card from SafeWork NSW.
This is the only recognised White Card course for NSW construction sites. Online delivery is not permitted in New South Wales.
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify health and safety legislative requirements relevant to construction work in NSW
- Understand construction hazards and risk control measures
- Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
- Identify incident and emergency response procedures
- Receive a SafeWork NSW-issued Statement of Training (SOT) on the day
- Apply for a NSW White Card through Asset College’s submission to SafeWork NSW
This course meets the general construction induction training requirements under the NSW Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017 and is nationally recognised.
Entry Requirements
To enrol in the NSW White Card course, participants must:
- Be at least 14 years of age
- Provide 100 points of original Evidence of Identity (EOI) as specified by SafeWork NSW
- Have photo ID and documents showing date of birth, signature, and residential address
- Understand and speak basic English (language support may be available—ask us)
- Arrive on time, as latecomers may not be admitted
- Be physically present – this course must be delivered face-to-face only in New South Wales
Special EOI provisions apply for:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants
- Secondary school students
- Recent arrivals (less than six weeks in Australia)

Units of Competency
The White Card course in NSW covers the following nationally recognised unit:
CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
This unit is a mandatory requirement under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017 (NSW) for all persons working on construction sites. It is the same unit delivered across Australia, but in New South Wales it must be delivered in person and assessed using the SafeWork NSW mandated assessment toolkit.
Asset College is approved by SafeWork NSW to deliver this unit, and our trainers are officially nominated and authorised in accordance with SafeWork’s conditions for Registered Training Organisations.

Completing the White Card course is a vital first step for working safely in the construction industry. Once you’ve received your White Card, you may choose to build on your skills and enhance your employability through further training with Asset College.
Many students go on to enrol in nationally recognised courses such as:
- Certificate III in Work Health and Safety – for those looking to take on safety responsibilities or supervisory roles on site
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety – for those progressing into WHS advisory, compliance, or management roles
- Certificate II in Security Operations – ideal for entry-level security roles, including construction site security
- Certificate III in Security Operations – for advanced security duties including control room, patrols, and mobile response
- Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) – a valuable addition to any site-based or safety-focused role
These courses can open up diverse employment pathways across construction, WHS, security, and public safety sectors.

Asset College is an approved RTO with SafeWork NSW to deliver General Construction Induction Training. All trainers are officially nominated, and training is delivered strictly in line with the SafeWork NSW Agreement and mandated procedures.
White Card training in NSW must be delivered in person. Online learning and assessment are not accepted under NSW law.

White Card training in New South Wales is delivered face-to-face only, as required by SafeWork NSW. Online or distance delivery is not permitted under any circumstances.
Course delivery includes:
- 6 hours of in-person training (excluding breaks and administration)
- Conducted by a SafeWork NSW-nominated trainer
- Includes theory, practical activities, and mandatory assessment using the NSW toolkit
- Completion of 100-point Evidence of Identity (EOI) check on the day
- Statement of Training (SOT) issued on the same day if competent
Training is offered at selected Asset College training locations across NSW. Group bookings and onsite delivery for employers may be available upon request, provided the venue meets training and compliance standards.
