Course Overview
Starting a career in construction in Tasmania? You’ll need a White Card first!
The White Card course (CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) is a mandatory requirement for anyone who wants to work on a construction site in Tasmania. This nationally recognised training provides the skills and knowledge needed to work safely and follow workplace health and safety (WHS) laws.
Asset College is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) approved to deliver the White Card course in Tasmania. Upon successful completion, students will receive a White Card issued directly by Asset College—no separate application to WorkSafe Tasmania is required.
Courses are available face-to-face and online, giving you the flexibility to complete your training in the way that suits you best.
Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand WHS legislative requirements relevant to construction work
- Identify common construction hazards and appropriate control measures
- Follow safe work practices and reporting procedures
- Recognise and respond to workplace incidents and emergencies
- Obtain a White Card that is valid across all Australian states and territories

Entry Requirements
To enrol in the White Card course in Tasmania, participants must:
- Be at least 14 years of age
- Have access to valid photo identification (such as driver licence, passport, or student ID)
- Be able to understand and communicate in basic English (language support may be available—ask us)
- For online delivery, have access to a device with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a quiet space for completing the course
- Complete a brief pre-enrolment suitability check for online courses (to meet integrity and engagement standards)
There is no 100-point ID requirement in Tasmania. However, all students must provide sufficient ID to confirm their identity before training and assessment.
Units of Competency
This course delivers the nationally recognised unit:
CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
This unit is required for anyone who wants to work on a construction site in Tasmania or anywhere else in Australia. It covers the basic principles of workplace health and safety (WHS), hazard identification, and risk management in construction environments.
Upon successful completion, students are issued with a White Card that meets the requirements of Work Health and Safety Regulation 2012 (Tas) and is valid across all Australian states and territories.

- Face-to-Face Training
- Delivered at approved Asset College locations or via group bookings for employers
- Includes interactive instruction, practical activities, and assessment
- White Card issued directly upon successful completion
- Online Training (Live Video Conference)
- Complete your training from home via a secure, real-time video platform
- Includes live interaction with a qualified trainer
- Identity verification and engagement checks are required
- White Card issued upon successful completion and ID confirmation

After obtaining your White Card, you may wish to further your training and employment opportunities through a range of industry-relevant courses offered by Asset College, including:
- Certificate III in Work Health and Safety – for entry into WHS officer or site safety roles
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety – for those aiming to manage WHS systems or lead safety initiatives
- Certificate II in Security Operations – ideal for construction site security roles
- Certificate III in Security Operations – for supervisory, patrol, or crowd control functions
- Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) – highly recommended for construction and WHS roles
