CPPSS00061 Cash-in-Transit Skill Set
This is the course you need for the 1C subclass in NSW and to add Cash-in-Transit as a function to your existing Security Licence in QLD.
A cash-in-transit security officer carries cash, bullion, jewellery or valuables.
This skill set describes the skills and knowledge required to securely collect, transfer and deliver cash and valuables whilst in transit.
This skill set may provide credit towards CPP31318 Certificate III in Security Operations.
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment.
QLD Licensing
In QLD, once you have completed this course you will be able to apply to have the ‘Cash In Transit’ function added to your existing security licence.
Note: in order to carry weapons in the security industry, Security Officers must also complete the Firearms Skill Set course and hold a Security Guard Firearms Licence. You can enrol in the full Firearms and Defensive Tactics course in order obtain all of the requirements.
NSW Licensing
A new 1C (Cash-in-Transit Guard) security licence subclass commenced on 1 June 2023 and authorises holders to patrol, protect or guard cash-in-transit (CIT).
On completion of this course you will be able to lodge an application to the Security Licensing and Enforcement Directorate (SLED) for a 1C licence.
Entry Requirements
QLD Students
- Have completed all 14 modules from the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations
- Existing licensees with older qualifications will need to upgrade to the current CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations and complete this skill set to get the function added to their licence. If you are not sure of what you need to do, please contact us.
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have had no criminal convictions in previous 10 years
Note; driving offences (e.g. speeding, drink driving, etc.) are not normally disqualifying offences. - Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold an appropriate Visa to work within the Security Industry in Queensland.
This course is not open to international students (student visa 500).
You must display sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to read and understand organisational policies and procedures, write reports and communicate with others in plain English.
Prior to enrolment you may be required to undertake an LLN assessment.
NSW Students
- Currently hold a Class 1A licence
- be an Australian/New Zealand citizen or permanent Australian resident, or hold a visa sponsored by a Master licence holder, or hold a visa for a skilled occupation to which the activities authorised by the proposed licence correspond. View SLED fact sheet for further information.
Prior to enrolment you will be required to undertake an LLN assessment.

Assessment Re-Submission Fees
Should you be deemed not competent after 2 attempts at a unit of competency, an assessment re-submission fee of $50 will apply per assessment.
Re-Enrolment
Should you wish to cancel your course or your enrolment is cancelled by us due to no progress and you then wish to re-enrol, a re-enrolment fee of 25% of the standard course fee will apply if requested within 3 months of initial cancellation. If re-enrolment is requested within 4 – 12 months of initial cancellation, 50% of the standard course fee will apply.
Licensing Requirements
Adding Cash-in-Transit to a Queensland Security Licence
In Queensland, to add Cash-in-Transit (CIT) as a function to your existing Security Provider Licence, you need to apply for a function variation through the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). This process allows licensed security officers to legally perform duties that involve the secure transportation and protection of cash or other valuables.
Steps to add CIT to your QLD licence:

Complete the required training

Apply for a licence variation – Submit a function variation through the OFT’s Security Providers portal.

Provide supporting documents, including your updated training certificate and 100 points of ID.

Pay the application fee – Fees apply for each additional function added to your licence.

Wait for approval – Once processed, your updated licence will include the Cash-in-Transit function, enabling you to legally undertake armed or unarmed CIT roles, depending on your endorsement.
Obtaining the 1C Cash-in-Transit Licence Class in New South Wales
In NSW, the 1C licence subclass under the Security Licence – Class 1 authorises you to carry out cash-in-transit activities, which involve guarding, escorting, or transporting cash and other valuables under contract.
Steps to obtain a 1C licence in NSW:

Be at least 18 years old

Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a visa with work rights

Pass a national criminal history check

Complete approved training – You must successfully complete the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, and then completing this Cash-In-Transit course.

Apply for a Class 1 Security Licence (1C) via Service NSW – You can apply online or in person at a Service NSW centre.

Submit required documents, including ID, training certificates, and a passport-style photo.

Undergo fingerprinting and background checks as part of the licensing process.

Pay the applicable licence fee – This can vary depending on the duration and any additional subclass selections.

Receive your licence – Once approved, you’ll be authorised to work in Cash-in-Transit roles under subclass 1C across NSW.
